A Call to Carmel

“I have chosen you and have set you apart.”

The vocation to Carmel is a particular call from God to seek Him above all things and to give oneself entirely to Him in a life of prayer, contemplation, sacrifice, and hidden charity.

Our community welcomes young women who believe Our Lord may be calling them to the contemplative life of a Traditional Discalced Carmelite. Following the spirit of Saints Teresa of Jesus and John of the Cross, we seek to live a life of deep recollection, silence, penance, and intimate friendship with God, offered for the sanctification of the Church and the salvation of souls.

A Carmelite vocation is not simply a desire to withdraw from the world. It is a call to remain close to the Heart of Christ on behalf of the world—to pray, to sacrifice, and to offer one’s entire life for the intentions of Our Lord and His Church. In the hidden life of the cloister, even the smallest acts of prayer, work, suffering, and charity can become an offering of love.

Is Our Lord Calling You?

A woman discerning a Carmelite vocation should desire, above all, a life wholly given to God. She should have a love for prayer and silence, a generous spirit of sacrifice, a sincere devotion to Our Lady, and a desire to grow in virtue and holiness.

The contemplative life is both joyful and demanding. It requires generosity, perseverance, humility, and a willingness to allow Our Lord to lead the soul through both consolation and trial. No one needs to be perfect before entering Carmel; rather, she must be willing to be formed by grace and to seek God faithfully.
